Dragon Ball is a Japanese manga series created by Akira Toriyama in 1984. The original manga, written and illustrated by Toriyama, ran in the Weekly Shonen Jump series from 1984 to 1995 with 519 chapters in 42 tankabon volumes published by Shueisha. Dragon Ball was inspired by the 16th-century Chinese novel Journey to the West and Hong Kong martial arts films.
The movie follows the adventures of the protagonist, Son Goku, from childhood to martial training. He spends his youth away from civilization until he meets a girl named Bulma, who encourages him to join his adventure. The world is looking for seven orbs, the Dragon Ball, which when written by the dragon has a desire. Along the way, Goku makes many friends, becomes a family man, discovers his old armor, and fights many villains, many of whom are looking for the Dragon Ball.
