Top Gun: Maverick is a 2022 American drama film directed by Joseph Kosinski and written by Ehren Kruger, Eric Warren Singer and Christopher McQuarrie based on a story by Peter Craig and Justin Marks.
The movie is a sequel to the 1986 film Top Gun. Tom Cruise reprises his starring role as Navy aviator Maverick. It is based on the characters from the original film, created by Jim Cash and Jack Epps Jr.
Plot
After more than thirty years of service as one of the Navy’s top aviators, Pete “Maverick” Mitchell (Tom Cruise) is where he belongs, bravely trying to lead and avoid advancement in whatever category he finds himself in. When he finds himself training top students for a special mission never seen before, Maverick meets lieutenants. Bradley Bradshaw (Miles Teller), call sign “Rooster”, is the son of Maverick’s late friend and radar intercept officer lieutenant. Nick Bradshaw aka “Goose”. Faced with an uncertain future and the ghosts of his past, Maverick confronts his own worst fears, leading to a goal that requires the ultimate sacrifice of whoever is chosen to fly.

Top Gun: Maverick premiered at CinemaCon on April 28, 2022, and released by Paramount Pictures in the United States on May 27, 2022 in IMAX, 4DX, ScreenX, and Dolby Cinema. The film praised by critics, many calling it better than the original.
Film Awards
It became the best film of the National Board of Review and selected by the American Film Institute as one of the top ten films of 2022. The film nominated for six awards at the 95th Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and won numerous awards. It grossed $1.489 billion worldwide, making it the second-highest-grossing film of 2022 and the 2nd highest-grossing film of Cruise’s career.
